If you’ve taken a recent trip to McDonald’s and your little one picked up a “Shrek Forever After 3D” glass, please do not allow your child to use it. If visions of pouts or tantrums dance in your head, just chant the word “cadmium” to yourself and you won’t feel badly about taking it away. [...]

The recall started in the US and Canada has followed suit with a voluntary recall. McDonald’s Canada has issued the following statement:

As a precautionary measure and following consultations with Health Canada, McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited today issued a voluntary recall of its four Shrek Forever After™ glasses currently being offered in restaurants.

McDonald’s safety standards are among the highest in the industry and the company has a strong track record. It is important to note that the glassware was evaluated by an independent third-party laboratory and determined to be fully in compliance with all applicable Canadian requirements at the time of manufacture and distribution.

Upon learning of the evolving assessment of standards for cadmium in consumer products in the United States, McDonald’s Canada decided in an abundance of caution that a voluntary recall of the Shrek Forever After glassware was the appropriate course of action.

McDonald’s Canada has a longstanding, cooperative relationship with Health Canada, and continues to work with them as testing protocols and new scientific information becomes available.

Customers are instructed to stop using the glasses. More information on how to return them and obtain a refund will be communicated shortly.
